A Hypothesis of Intrinsic Vital Volatility in Gene Expression

A simulation of gene expression plays a central role in the simulation of cells or \systems biology". Recently, reporter protein technique has revealed the randomness in gene expression [2]. The experiments of uorescent reporter proteins suggests a high volatility of gene transcriptions. On the other hand, a phenomena of sporadic gene transcription has been observed by in situ hybridization technique [3]. In this poster, we propose a novel gene expression model: Intrinsic Vital Volatility Model. (The term \volatility" has been used for market price uctuation [4].) The model gives an alternative model for the sporadic or pulse-shaped change of mRNA abundance, which can be expected as a key reason for the stochasticity in gene expression. The model was compared with a simple pulse model by computer simulation. The result of the simulation suggests that mRNA abundance from a few cells may lack reproducibility.
